Aging (Botox® and Fillers)

Ponce De Leon spent his entire life looking for the Fountain of Youth and died an old, disappointed man. There is no Fountain of Youth! We do, however, have many methods and tricks to mask the telltale signs of aging.

As mentioned in other section of this site, we undergo surgeries, employ makeup and various types of supportive clothing all to hide the inevitable signs of aging.

Within the last several decades the anti-aging effects of various substances such as Botulinum toxin and bulk fillers have been appreciated. While the effects of these injections can be remarkable, they are unfortunately not permanent. They usually last four about 6 months. The good news is that they are very safe and do not seem to have any long term adverse effects. Such things as “crow’s feet” and brow creases can be removed with a simple five-to-ten minute session of injections. This service is now available Unique Balance Hormone & Rejuvenation Center. Remember, while there is no Fountain of Youth there are many ways to maintain your youthful appearance well into your fifth, sixth, and even seventh decade.

Botox®

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name Botox®, is a popular, non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, and crows feet near the eyes. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that Botox® is effective in relieving migraine headaches. Our experience is that while not eliminating the headaches all together, the intensity and frequency seems markedly reduced.

There have been reports in the newspaper about people getting botulism and other severe effects from “Botox®” but investigation reveals that these occurrences can be traced to the injection of non-pharmaceutical “cheaper” forms of botulinum toxin obtained from foreign countries. The purified form that is utilized in the United States is a single protein that has been extracted from the “crude” botulinum and has no risk of any infectious effects.

Hyaluronic Acid (i.e. Restylane®, Juviderm®)

According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon (ASAPS) Hydaluronic acid is a naturally occurring natural polysaccharide, which in appropriate form is a versatile soft tissue filler. Currently available with the product names Restylane®, Juviderm®, and Perlane®, this product is distributed by the Medicus Company and the Inamed Company. Hyaluronic acid is being widely used for the management of wrinkles, fine lines, contour deformities and volumetric deficiencies of the face, cheeks, and lips associated with aging, developmental anomalies, and certain diseases. Restylane®/Hylaform® do not represent the final answer in the search for an ideal tissue filler but does provide a safe, user-friendly approach.

The results can last up to 6 months. It is especially effective for the nasolabial folds, lip augmentation, and areas of contour deformities. It is also an ideal adjunct for Botox® treatment and is frequently used in conjunction with Botox® to correct lines and creases that persist.
